BECK <br />Examples of Utility Y2k Problems 2 <br />■ Distributed Control System Manufacturer <br />Non -Compliant: DPU's display the year 2000 as 100. Controller Files display <br />the year 2000 as 128. Trending must be restarted. Supplier claims to provide. <br />support for all its systems. To date, no formal statement has been issued. <br />However, some minor cosmetic problems have been found. Methods of <br />correcting these problems are being developed and tested. There have been no <br />fatal errors found in the systems. <br />■ Distributed Control System Manufacturer <br />Non -Compliant: Product software will correctly rollover to the year 2000, <br />however, a software upgrade is necessary because dates beyond 1999 cannot be <br />manually set. This new version of software will be available sometime in 1997. <br />d <br />Upgrade to new software release. <br />■ Event Display System Manufacturer <br />Non -Compliant: The year will be displayed as 100. The report feature will not <br />be able to handle dates in this format. Supplier will provide an update for this <br />product prior to the year 2000. Update product when the supplier provides `the <br />fix. <br />■ Major PLC Manufacturer <br />Non -Compliant: This product does not handle leap year correctly. The CPU <br />loses accuracy on leap day of leap year. This problem can produce a 2.5% loss of <br />time in time -based functions during the entire day. The functions that are <br />affected include fixed -scan duration, all time -based RLL instructions, and cyclic <br />analog task activities. The product has been discontinued so there are no <br />firmware updates planned. Additionally, the product uses a two -digit year field, <br />so custom code should be checked for date related problems. Do not perform <br />subtract or divide functions on two digit years or the result could be determined <br />incorrectly.
