The City is subject to extremely strong winds, commonly referred to as
"Santa Ana" wind conditions, which can reach wind speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. In addition,
the convergence of the marine shore air flow and the desert air flow creates steady winds on a daily
basis in the region. Finally, the City's topography is such that portions of the City contain small, brush -
covered hillsides, which either contribute to or create gusty wind conditions by causing natural
funneling effects and contribute to the increased potential for brush fires in the area.
Applicable Uniform Code Amendments: UBC 106.2, 1603.3.4, 1615, 1617,
1806.1, 904.2.11, 2315.
3. The City periodically experiences drought conditions and limited water
supplies. The drought conditions and limited storage capacity for water resources demands prudent
management of existing water supplies so that contamination is avoided, water conservation is
encouraged and sufficient water supplies are available for fire suppression and other purposes.
Applicable Uniform Code Amendments: UPC 701.1.2
4. The City, like much of the surrounding region, is subject to moderately
strong ground shaking from nearby earthquake faults, including the Elsinore and Chino Fault Lines.
Existing and planned developments are at risk from structural damage from earthquake faults. Thus,
improved standards are needed to ensure that maximum safety is provided to persons and property.
me
