CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF JUNE 15,1999 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR &CITY COUNCIL APPROVAL: HENRY T. GARCIA, CITY MANAGER * FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, ACTING FINANCE DIRECTOR SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR TWO BLACK & WHITE NATURAL GAS POLICE I VEHICLES TO WONDRIES FORD FLEET DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF $63,012.20 DATE: JUNE 7,1999 BACKGROUND Tt the council meeting of March 3, 1998, the City Council approved the City's participation in a clean air project funding opportunity made available through the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC). The program offers to co -fund projects sponsored by cities and counties that utilize Motor Vehicle Registration Fee Subvention Funds (AB2766 Subvention Funds). They will match an additional 25% of the City's initial estimated project request. The City choose to purchase five natural gas vehicles and install three natural gas fueling stations at the City Yard as our project. To date, three of the vehicles have been purchased (two vans for Neighborhood Services and one pick-up for Building Maintenance). The installation of the fueling stations has also been completed. The purchase of these two police vehicles, for use by Citizens Patrol, will complete the project. DISCUSSIONIANALYSIS On May 19, 1999, Purchasing solicited sealed bids for two natural gas police vehicles. Bid opening was to be held at 2:30 p.m., June 1, 1999. No bids were received. Ford factory scheduling would not allow for any new orders at this time. Recently the Los Angeles County Sherff s Department solicited bids and awarded a contract to Wondries Ford Fleet Division for police vehicles. The City can piggyback onto this bid under the Cooperative Purchase Provisions of the Los Angeles County Bid #200205. ALTERNATIVE None FINANCIAL IMPACT The funds are available in the Air Pollution Reduction Fund Account number 214-7000-7011-4910 ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Natural gas vehicles will help to reduce air pollution. RECOMMENDATION Staff recommends the Council piggyback ontathe Los Angeles County Sheriffs Bid #200205 and award a contract to Wondries Ford Fleet Division for two natural gas police vehicles in the amount of $63,012.20.
