GARCIA, CITY MANAGER * <br />FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, ACTING FINANCE DIRECTOR <br />SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR TWO BLACK & WHITE NATURAL GAS POLICE <br />I VEHICLES TO WONDRIES FORD FLEET DIVISION IN THE AMOUNT OF $63,012.20 <br />DATE: JUNE 7,1999 <br />BACKGROUND <br />Tt the council meeting of March 3, 1998, the City Council approved the City's participation in a clean air <br />project funding opportunity made available through the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review <br />Committee (MSRC). The program offers to co -fund projects sponsored by cities and counties that utilize <br />Motor Vehicle Registration Fee Subvention Funds (AB2766 Subvention Funds). They will match an <br />additional 25% of the City's initial estimated project request. <br />The City choose to purchase five natural gas vehicles and install three natural gas fueling stations at the <br />City Yard as our project. To date, three of the vehicles have been purchased (two vans for Neighborhood <br />Services and one pick-up for Building Maintenance). The installation of the fueling stations has also been <br />completed. The purchase of these two police vehicles, for use by Citizens Patrol, will complete the <br />project. <br />DISCUSSIONIANALYSIS <br />On May 19, 1999, Purchasing solicited sealed bids for two natural gas police vehicles. Bid opening was to <br />be held at 2:30 p.m., June 1, 1999. No bids were received. Ford factory scheduling would not allow for <br />any new orders at this time. Recently the Los Angeles County Sherff s Department solicited bids and <br />awarded a contract to Wondries Ford Fleet Division for police vehicles. The City can piggyback onto this <br />bid under the Cooperative Purchase Provisions of the Los Angeles County Bid #200205. <br />ALTERNATIVE <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The funds are available in the Air Pollution Reduction Fund Account number 214-7000-7011-4910 <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />Natural gas vehicles will help to reduce air pollution. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the Council piggyback ontathe Los Angeles County Sheriffs Bid #200205 and award a <br />contract to Wondries Ford Fleet Division for two natural gas police vehicles in the amount of $63,012.20. <br />Report prepared by Mary J.
