AB 1194 would
provide San Bernardino County local governments with more than $13 million in property tax
revenue in the current fiscal year. That amount would increase by nearly $19 million per year
over the next six years resulting in an eventual annual return of nearly $130 million per year.
Local governments need to keep more of the money their property taxes generate, as I
believe the citizens who run the local government know much better how to spend their money
than do legislators in Sacramento. In the past, the little money that the state has sent back to
local governments has come with too many strings attached.
During his campaign for Governor, Gray Davis promised local governments he would
stop the state's raid on local property tax revenues and restore local governments to the financial
standing they enjoyed prior to the property tax shifts. Signing this bill would fulfill that promise.
Although the need for this legislation is overwhelming, it can not be successful without
the support of the local governments and local elected officials. To that end, I am requesting that
you provide me a letter expressing Colton's support of AB 1194. If I can be of any assistance in
this matter, please contact me.
0erelp
I L EONARD
WEB -SITE ADDRESS:
www, assemblyxa.gov/leonard
