POLICE DISPATCHER L(II CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 4 <br />• Coordinate emergency calls and relay information and assistance requests involving other <br />law enforcement and fire fighting agencies. <br />• Enter, update and retrieve crime -related information from computer and teletype networks. <br />• Perform a variety of record keeping, filing, indexing and other general clerical work <br />necessary to document dispatch activities and to provide updated resources to field personnel. <br />• Monitor security of police facility and alarm board. <br />• Test and inspect equipment as necessary; report faulty equipment; monitor on-going <br />equipment maintenance. <br />• Demonstrate a fall understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods <br />associated with assigned duties. <br />• Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is <br />appropriate and resolve complaints. <br />• Provide back-up support to Record Bureau upon request. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, <br />bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily office activities. The position also <br />requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical <br />reports and data, using a computer key board. Additionally, the position requires near and far <br />vision in reading correspondence and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when <br />providing phone and face-to-face service. The need to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and <br />documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Exgerience: <br />DiVatcher I <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the necessary <br />knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Dispatcher 1. A typical way of obtaining <br />the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of clerical experience <br />involving public contact and the equivalent of a high school diploma.. <br />DkVgghgLLj <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the necessary <br />knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for a Dispatcher U.
