GARCIA, CITY MANAGE <br />FROM: DAVID MICHAEL DAVIS, CITY LIBRARIAN -00 <br />SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR RECRUITMENT & RATIFICATION OF EMPLOYEE <br />APPOINTMENT TO THE PART-TIME POSITION OF LIBRARY <br />ASSISTANT I IN THE LIBRARY DEPARTMENT <br />DATE: MAY 6, 1999 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />There is one (1) vacant part-time Library Assistant I position in the Library Department. <br />Attached is the job description of this classification. The salary range is based on an hourly <br />rate of $9.99 per hour. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />Recruitment for the position of part-time Uhrary Assistant I will be conducted and an eligibility <br />list established upon Council approval. Thi- endidate chosen will meet the education and <br />experience requirements as specified in, the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />Funding availability for this approved general fund position in the fiscal year 1998-99 budget is <br />as follows: acct. #100-6250-6250-1040 (Salaries Part -Time). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE <br />As soon as possible. <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT <br />Library Assistants answer a variety of reference and other questions from library customers; <br />assist customers in locating materials and using library computer software; check out library <br />books and other materials; and catalog :and process materials. This position is essential to the <br />basic operation of the library. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of employee appointment to the <br />part-time position of Library Assistant I in the Library Department. This request has been <br />reviewed and approved by the Library Board of Trustees. <br />Attachment: Job Description <br />Item # 11 <br />
