CLARKE, UTILITY DIRECTOW� <br />SUBJECT: RATIFICATION OF CHJ LABORATORIES TO PERFORM <br />COMPACTION TESTING FOR THE WATER LINE REPLACEMENT <br />PROJECTS IN THE AMOUNT NOT -TO -EXCEED $10,000 <br />DATE: MAY 3, 1999 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The specifications for the water line replacement project inadvertently omitted the <br />requirement for compaction testing to be paid for by the contractor. The project was <br />awarded by Council on April 5, 1999, and notice to proceed has already been issued. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />Due to the urgency in the matter, staff received a quote from CHJ Laboratories to <br />perform the necessary testing. CHJ Laboratories began the testing on April 26, 1999 in <br />order to complete the Gray and Julie Streets water line replacement project prior to May <br />3, 1999. <br />FINANCIAL ANALYSIS: <br />Sufficient funds in the Water Professional Services Account No. 521-8100-8101-2350 <br />are available for the required compaction tests. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council ratify CHJ Laboratories to perform compaction testing <br />for the water line replacement project in the amount not -to -exceed $10,000. <br />Report Prepared By: Lorraine June <br />Item # 14 <br />
