CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 2, 1999
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
APPROVAL: HENRY GARCIA, CITY MANAG
FROM: JOHN C. HUTTON, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: APPROVE RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2119,
TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL THROUGH STREETS AND STOP
INTERSECTIONS, GLENWOOD APPROACHING WESTWOOD
DATE: October 20, 1999
BACKGROUND:
The intersection of Glennwood Street and Westwood Street is an uncontrolled
intersection. A request to install a stop sign on the south leg has been presented to the
Traffic Safety Committee. The accident history for this intersection shows no accidents
during the last two years. The State of California Traffic Manual Policy for the
installation of multi -way stop signs specifies an accident history of five accidents of the
type correctable by a stop sign in one year. Traffic volume data was not available.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
This recommendation is based upon the following concern:
• The curvilinear geometrics of this intersection may cause confusion as to which
approach has the right of way over another approach. The installation of a stop sign
on the entering street will help to clarify this confusion.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of the installation of 1 sign is fifty dollars, ($50.00) from account number 249-
6900-6 -2350.
(Jo C. Hutton, Public Works Director
RECOMMENDATION:
If Council concurs, staff recommends adoption of the attached resolution amending
Resolution No. 2119 to include additional through streets and stop intersections and
authorize the installation of stop signs on the north and south legs of the intersection of
10`h Street and "O" Street. It is also recommended that, should the Council authorize
this action, 48 inch signs be installed, and a Police Officer be assigned to monitor this
intersection during the period of time required for the public to become accustomed to
this modification
JCH/
Page 1 Item #9
