CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For the City Council Meeting of September 7, 1999 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manage <br />FROM: Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director <br />SUBJECT: Request For Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointments in Two <br />Part -Time Positions of Customer Service Representative I in the Utilities <br />Department <br />DATE: Thursday, August 26, 1999 <br />BACKGROUND: There are two(2) vacant part time Customer Service Representative (CSR) <br />positions in the Utilities Department due to promotions of existing part time employees to full <br />time. Attached is the job description of the classification; the rate of pay is $10.00 per hour. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list <br />established upon Council approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and <br />experience requirements as specified in the job description. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding availability for this approved enterprise fund position in the <br />fiscal year 1998-99 budget funded as follows: Account No. 520-8000-8007-1010-0580 (salary) <br />and Account No. 520-8000-8007-1100-0000 (salary related benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: 10/18/99 <br />CUSTOMER SERVICE IMPACT: The position provides additional personnel hours to directly <br />reduce customer wait time for utility billing, inquiries, and other payment services. The position <br />also enhances the utilities' ability to operate in the restructured electric utility environment by <br />providing more worker -hours for new market activities such as Internet billing. <br />RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the <br />employee appointments to the part-time position of Customer Service Representative I as <br />recommended by the Utility Director. <br />Attachment: Job Description <br />Item #12 <br />\\server\utim\council\agendareps\recruitptcsr99. doc <br />
