City of Colton <br />Agenda Report <br />For Council Meeting of September 21, 1999 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />APPROVAL: Henry Garcia, City Manage <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief —;�� <br />SUBJECT: Request for recruitment and ratification of employee <br />appointment in the full time position of Fire Captain in the Fire <br />Department. <br />DATE: September 13,1999 <br />Background: There is one vacant Fire Captain position in the Fire Department. Attached is <br />the job description of the classification� the salary range is $3594-$4369 per month. Staff is <br />requesting that recruitment be conducted, establishing an eligibility list for the current <br />opening, as well as any future openings that may occur during the term of the list. <br />Discussion / Analysis: Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list <br />established upon Council approval. The candidate chosen will meet the education and <br />experience requirements as specified in the job description. <br />Financial Impact: Funding availability for this approved general fund position in the fiscal <br />year 99/00 budget funded as follows: Account Number 100-6090-6091-1010 (Salary) and <br />Account Number 100-6090-6091 -1100 (Salary Related Benefits). <br />Alternatives: Not to fill the position. <br />Customer Service Impact: To ensure that the lives and property of Colton's citizens <br />receive a high level of protection, all emergency situations should be supervised by <br />personnel who have proven that they have the training and experience necessary to fulfill <br />this responsibility. <br />Recommendation: That the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the <br />employee appointment to the full time position of Fire Captain as recommended by the Fire <br />Chief. <br />Attachment: Job Description <br />Item #7 <br />
