CITY OF COLTON <br />RECREATION SERVICES MANAGER <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the general direction of the Human Resource Director, directs, coordinates, supervises the <br />activities and operations of the Community Center Division; coordinates divisional activities <br />with other Human/Neighborhood Services divisions, City departments and outside agencies or <br />organizations; establish division goals, objectives, policies and procedures in accordance with the <br />department and City's mission statement and goals; and provides professional, administrative <br />and technical support to Human Resources Director. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Recreation Services Manager is a management level class responsible for managing, <br />directing and coordinating the activities of the Community Center. This classification is <br />distinguished from the next higher classification of Human Resource Director in that the Human <br />Resource Director assumes full management responsibility for the entire department rather than a <br />division. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises direct and functional supervision over professional, technical, clerical and/or volunteer <br />staff. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Accept management responsibility for activities, operations and services of the Community <br />Center Division including cultural arts, recreation, youth and adult sports, Citywide special <br />events, excursions, and senior citizen activities. <br />• Directly oversee operations of the municipal pool. <br />• Oversee and/or participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of the <br />Community Center Division goals, objectives, policies and procedures; ensure that divisional <br />goals are achieved. <br />• Plan, coordinate, and review the work plan for assigned projects and responsibilities for <br />program planning and facility use. <br />• Provide administrative and technical direction to staff in the areas of recreation, sports and <br />child care. <br />• Coordinate the selection, orientation, and training and evaluation programs for Community <br />Center personnel; provide or coordinate staff training; identify and resolve staff deficiencies; <br />fulfill discipline procedures. <br />• Manage, coordinate and oversee the development of the Community Center Division budget; <br />participate in the forecast of necessary funds for staffing, materials and supplies; discuss and <br />resolve budget issues with appropriate staff; implement adjustments as necessary. <br />• Propose, present, and justify divisional programs, projects, operations, and services. <br />• Develop a strategy and work plan for the successful achievement of program and project <br />goals. <br />Revised 09/13/99 <br />
