1 RESOLUTION NO. 886-99 <br />2 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF COLTON ACCEPTING A BILL GATES LIBRARY <br />3 INITIATIVE GRANT AND AMENDING THE ADOPTED <br />4 BUDGET FOR A TOTAL FY 99/2000 APPROPRIATION <br />OF $35,000 <br />5 <br />6 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Colton is dedicated to building a <br />7 more literate community; and <br />8 <br />9 WHEREAS, the Bill Gates Library Initiative has awarded the Colton Public <br />10 Library approximately $35,000 in computer equipment, in addition to wiring, logistics <br />11 support, training, software; and <br />12 <br />13 WHEREAS, a need exists to augment the current computer literacy program, <br />14 providing services to citizens who do not have ready access to personal computers <br />15 or the Internet; and <br />16 <br />17 WHEREAS, the Colton Public Library was one of the first public libraries in the <br />18 country to recognize the need to offer public access to computers and the Internet; <br />19 involving both children and parents in organized computer literacy training; <br />20 <br />21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of <br />22 Colton accept a Bill Gates library initiative grant, amending the adopted budget for a <br />23 total FY 99/2000 appropriation of $35,000, as follows: <br />24 <br />25 Library Grant Revenue - "Gates Library Grant" $35,000 <br />26 <br />27 Libra ryGrant Expenditure -"Equipment" <br />$35,000 <br />28 <br />-1- <br />
