CROWE, CHIEF OF POtltltl""LIC <br />SUBJECT: RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AND RELEASING GRANT FUNDS <br />DATE: JANUARY 13, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND: As part of the Regional Juvenile Crime Enforcement Coalition, the City of <br />Colton is entitled to certain funds through the Juvenile Accountability Incentive Block Grant <br />(JAIBG). This fiscal year the amount is $14,238. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The JAIBG program is intended to provide units of local <br />government with funds to develop programs that promote greater accountability in the juvenile <br />justice system. The Law Enforcement Education Partnership Committee (LEEP) has requested <br />that the City of Colton support and refer our portion of these funds to the Coalition. These <br />funds, when combined with the other cities within our county will total $676,800. This will hire <br />an additional six (6) probation officers and one Juvenile Hearing Officer. The Colton Police <br />Department has a close working relationship with these units and, in fact, places high demands <br />on their resources. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: This is not a project affecting the City of Colton pursuant to <br />the California Environmental Act. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />PatrickCrowe, Chief ofis <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached <br />resolution in support of the Law Enforcement Education Partnership Committee. <br />Attachment: Resolution <br />JAIBG.doc .rw <br />Item #9 <br />
