MAINTENANCE WORKER 1/11 CITY OF COLTON Page 3 of 4 . • Assists in troubleshooting and testing water meters and various flow rates. • Performs general landscaping work around water meters, mains and other water services or equipment; clears any roots and overgrown areas; mows, trims, prunes and weeds as is necessary. • Maintains records of installations and repairs of meters and other services. WORKING CONDITIONS: Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot, and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience: Maintenance Worker H Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker 11. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of experience performing duties directly applicable to assigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. Maintenance Worker I Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Maintenance Worker 1. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of experience performing duties directly applicable to 9ssigned area of responsibility and a high school diploma. License/Certificate: Possession of, or ability to obtain a valid, class C California driver's license. Possession of a class B California driver's license is desirable for some positions. Possession of a Grade I Water Distribution Operator's license issued by the American Water Works Association is desirable for some positions. KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: Knowledge of. Street, parks, irrigation and other public works construction and maintenance equipment. The operation, care, and preventive maintenance techniques for light duty trucks and equipment, and assigned power tools. Methods, materials, tools and equipment relative to assigned area of responsibility including tree trimming, street, curb, gutter, sidewalk, painting, sign fabrication, irrigation, system and water meter and main equipment and tools.
