GARCIA, CITY MANAGER <br />FROM: AL HOLLIMAN, FINANCE DIRECTO CCCCJJJJ <br />SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID FOR ANNUAL TREE TRIMMING CONTRACT FOR THE ELECTRIC <br />DEPARTMENT TO MOWBRAY'S TREE SERVICE FOR AN ESTIMATED AMOUNT <br />OF $25,000. <br />DATE: FEBRUARY 24, 2000 <br />BACKGROUND <br />On January 25, 2000 the purchasing division solicited sealed bids for tree trimming services. The "Notice <br />Inviting Bids" was published on February 3, 2000 and was also mailed to thirteen contractors. These trees <br />are located on private property and the Electric Department does not have the necessary equipment <br />needed to access and trim these trees. The Electric Department has had several power outages in the <br />past that have been caused by trees growing into the primary power lines. <br />The annual contract for these services will be from March 15, 2000 through March 15, 2001 with the <br />option to renew the contract for one additional year at the same price and terms. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS <br />The bid opening was held on February 17, 2000 in the Purchasing Office. Three bids were received and <br />evaluated. Bid were received from Mowbrays Tree Service, Asplundh Tree Expert Company and <br />Trimming Land Company, Inc. Mowbrays Tree Service was the lowest responsible bidder. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />None <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The Council appropriated funds for this service in the Electric Department's professional services account <br />number 520-8000-8004-2350-0923. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br />None <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the Council award the annual Tree Trimming contract for the Electric Department <br />to Mowbray's Tree Service in the amount of $25,000.00. <br />Report prepared by Nicole Mihld, Purchasing Assistant <br />Attachments: None <br />Page 1 of 1 Item #12 <br />
