CITY OF COLTON <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />For Council Meeting of December 18, 2001 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director <br />APPROVAL: Daryl J. Parrish, City Manager <br />SUBJECT: Oral Report—Colton Jets Generation Project <br />DATE: December 11, 2001 <br />Item #18 <br />The Electric Utility needs to replace thirty (30) megawatts of contract energy due to its expiration on July1, <br />2003. One of the options to replace these resources is to build a power plant within the City limits. <br />DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS <br />Attached is a presentation of the various alternatives to replace not only the energy lost from the two <br />contracts, but to satisfy the short-term growth needs for capacity and energy facing the City. This <br />presentation was presented to the Utilities Commission at their December 10, 2001, meeting at which time <br />they requested details of the preferred staff option(s) at the next Commission meeting. <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />The alternatives will be discussed as part of the staff presentation. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACTS <br />The financial impacts can vary with the option(s) selected. <br />The environmental impacts can vary with the option(s) selected. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />It is recommended that the City Council accept and file this report and, if appropriate, give direction to staff <br />regarding the City's needs for additional capacity and energy to meets the needs of the Electric Utility. <br />
