CITY OF COLTON CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT For Council Meeting of December 18, 2001 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Thomas K. Clarke, Utility Director APPROVAL: Daryl J. Parrish, City Manager SUBJECT: Oral Report—Colton Jets Generation Project DATE: December 11, 2001 Item #18 The Electric Utility needs to replace thirty (30) megawatts of contract energy due to its expiration on July1, 2003. One of the options to replace these resources is to build a power plant within the City limits. DISCUSSION / ANALYSIS Attached is a presentation of the various alternatives to replace not only the energy lost from the two contracts, but to satisfy the short-term growth needs for capacity and energy facing the City. This presentation was presented to the Utilities Commission at their December 10, 2001, meeting at which time they requested details of the preferred staff option(s) at the next Commission meeting. ALTERNATIVES The alternatives will be discussed as part of the staff presentation. FINANCIAL IMPACTS The financial impacts can vary with the option(s) selected. The environmental impacts can vary with the option(s) selected. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that the City Council accept and file this report and, if appropriate, give direction to staff regarding the City's needs for additional capacity and energy to meets the needs of the Electric Utility.
