Item #6 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF NOVEMBER 20, 2001 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: R, Heusterberg, Chief of Police <br />SUBJECT: Approval of the California Law Enfor ment Equipment Program <br />(CLEEP) High Technology Grant <br />DATE: October 29, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The State of California Department of Justice is providing funds for the 2001 California <br />Law Enforcement Equipment Program High Technology Grant. This grant would provide <br />funding for police departments to upgrade technology. The City of Colton is eligible to <br />receive $45,117.00 under this grant. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />With the funds received through the High Technology Grant, the Police Department <br />intends to purchase an additional mobile data computer (MDC) for use in the Citizen <br />Volunteer unit. Additional funds will be used to upgrade the training software used in the <br />department to track training for all department personnel as required by POST. <br />Additionally, funds will be used to purchase a laser mapping system, which will be used <br />by both patrol officers and traffic officers. Patrol officers would use the mapping system <br />for crime scene diagrams and the traffic officers would use it for serious or fatal traffic <br />collisions. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The state grant award provides a total of $45,117.00 for the grant year. There is no <br />matching funds required of this grant and there is no impact on the general fund. <br />� yo <br />
