1 <br />2 <br />3 <br />4 <br />5 <br />6 <br />7 <br />8 <br />9 <br />10 <br />11 <br />16 <br />17 <br />18 <br />19 <br />20 <br />21 <br />271 <br />ORDINANCE NO. 0-20-01 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />COLTON, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING CHAPTER 2.02.080 OF THE <br />COLTON MUNICIPAL CODE ESTABLISHING ELECTION OF <br />MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL BY DISTRICT AND DISTRICT <br />BOUNDARIES <br />WHEREAS, in 1992, pursuant to a City-wide voter initiative, Measure W, the <br />City of Colton ("City') established six electoral districts and provided for the position <br />of Mayor elected by the City at large; and <br />WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 0-3A-92, adopted on December 1, 1992, <br />established the boundaries of the districts and the election of members to the City <br />Council by districts; and <br />WHEREAS, California Election Code Section 21601 provides that following <br />each decennial federal census, and using that census as a basis, the council shall, <br />by ordinance or resolution, adjust the boundaries of all of the council districts of the <br />city so that the districts shall be as nearly equal in population as may be and shall <br />comply with the applicable provisions of Section 1973 of Title 42 of the United States <br />Code ("Voting Rights Act"), as amended; and <br />WHEREAS, the Federal Census 2000 data, published on March 29, 2001, <br />identified the City's population as 47,662; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has conducted and completed a study of the six electoral <br />districts and has concluded that all six districts are unequal in population and <br />therefore the boundaries of each must be adjusted to approximately reflect a <br />population of 7,944 in each district; and <br />RVPUBWYC\619839 <br />
