CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT Item #9 FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF October 2, 2001 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services 5 SUBJECT: Use of Fleming Park, its Band Shell and the Closure of La Cadena Drive from "O" Street to "D" Street for the Annual Veteran's Day Parade and Program Sunday, November 11, 2001, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. DATE: September 24, 2001 BACKGROUND: American Legion Post #155 and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars #6475 are requesting the use of Fleming Park, its Band Shell and the closure of a portion of La Cadena Drive for the City's Annual Veteran's Day Parade and Program. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: The two groups are requesting the closure of La Cadena Drive from "O" Street to "D" Street. The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. and conclude at approximately 11:00 a.m. The beautiful setting of Fleming Park will provide a great atmosphere for the program. Expected attendance is estimated at several thousand along the parade route with (200) adults & (100) youth expected for the program in the park. FINANCIAL IMPACT: Since the park is maintained by the Parks, Recreation and Family Services Department, there will be a minimal impact on staff hours from General Fund Account No. 100-6200-6205-1050. ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the approval of the American Legion and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars use of Fleming Park & Band shell on Sunday, November 11, 2001. Staff also recommends the closure of La Cadena Drive between "O" and "D" Streets for the annual parade.
