CITY OF COLTON Item #10 <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 2, 2001 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members <br />FROM: Randy Heusterberg, Chief of <br />SUBJECT: Approval of Local Law Enforcement Block Grant (LLEBG 2001) <br />DATE: September 18, 2001 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The United States Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, is providing funds for the <br />2001 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant program. This grant would provide funding for police <br />equipment and programs. The City of Colton is eligible to receive a total of $74,522, under this <br />grant. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Through this block grant program, the police department intends to use approximately one-half the <br />funds for overtime to conduct specialized programs. These programs include holiday patrol, CORE <br />patrol, bike patrol, and a minor decoy program. The remainder of the funds will be used to <br />purchase needed equipment for specialized teams such as SWAT and first responders during <br />critical incidents. The equipment is to include 10 two-way radios and chargers, 20 earcoms for <br />SWAT stealth communications, and 4-5 body bunkers for the first responders. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />The Federal grant award provides a total of $74,522 for the grant year. The City must match this <br />award with $8,280, for a total of $82,802. The matching fund amount will be funded through asset <br />seizure fund. There is no impact on the general fund. There is no waiver of matching funds within <br />this grant award. <br />RFUJg <br />
