PLANNING ASSISTANT CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Planning Assistant. A typical way of obtaining the required <br />qualifications is to possess the equivalent of one year of directly related experience in land <br />use or professional governmental planning or a related field and a bachelor's degree in <br />urban or regional planning or a related field. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of a valid class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Planning programs and processes. <br />Personal computers and GIS applications. <br />Ability to: <br />Learn zoning laws and comprehensive plans including their formation, process of <br />adoption, and enforcement. <br />Communicate effectively orally and in writing with architects, contractors, developers, <br />owners, supervisors, employees, and the general public. <br />Ability to establish effective working relationships. <br />Skill in: <br />The area of drafting and designing. <br />The operation of tools and equipment such as personal computer, including word <br />processing, motor vehicle; calculator; phone; copy and fax machine; and tape measure. <br />APPROVED BY COUNCIL: <br />
