Cmerg en cJ f4ctd n-)
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of APRIL 16, 2002
TO: Honorable Members of the City Council d-
i
FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services
SUBJECT: Approval of Changes to the Joint Use Agreement between
the City of Colton and the Colton Joint Unified School District
for Colton Middle School
DATE: April 16, 2002
BACKGROUND:
The City of Colton and the Colton Joint Unified School District have always
enjoyed a supportive relationship. In October of 2001 a Joint Use Agreement
between the two agencies was approved for the use of Colton Middle School. This
was completed specifically to satisfy a State of California Grant requirement as
further discussed below.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
The City, School District and Colton Youth Soccer Organization partnered in an
effort to obtain a State of California Grant for sport lighting at Colton Middle
School. The City applied for the grant under the Safe Neighborhood, Parks, Clean
Water Clean Air and Coastal Protection Bond Act of 2000.
One of the requirements for the grant was a Joint Use Agreement between the
City and School District for Colton Middle School. This was approved by the City
Council on October 16, 2001. The completed application and required
documentation was submitted to the State prior to the November 1, 2001 deadline.
Since that time the grant has moved through the State's review process.
Recently, staff received a phone call from the State Grants Office requesting
several changes to the Joint Use Agreement. The requested changes did not
directly affect the City, but rather the School District.
After several conference calls involving the City, School District and the State
Office of Grants, all parties were in agreement with the changes. Those changes
are attached. Items #11 and #16 of the Agreement were affected. Areas, which
are lined through, represent language to be deleted, while areas underlined
represent additions.
1'7A
