Zamora, Community Development Director <br />SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee Appointment to the <br />Full -Time Position of Associate Planner in the Community Development <br />Department <br />DATE: August 12, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Associate Planner position in the Community Development Department became vacant on <br />September 6, 2001, when the prior occupant Ms. Lisa Banuelos retired from the City. Subsequent to <br />the vacancy, staff requested recruitment for a Planning Assistant in lieu of an Associate Planner to <br />ascertain if the Planning Division could perform their function with minimal work personnel. <br />Unfortunately, the results have been unsuccessful, and the Division is in need of the Associate <br />Planner in order to provide public service assistance in a more timely manner. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />Recruitment for said position will be conducted and an eligibility list will be established upon approval by <br />the City Council. The candidate chosen will meet the education and experience requirements as specified <br />in the job description. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: <br />This will be a general fund position and will be funded for the remainder of the 2002-2003 fiscal <br />years as follows: Account Number 100-6300-6301-1010 (salary) and Account Number 100-6300- <br />6302-1100 (salary related benefits). The salary range will be $3,654 - $4,441 per month. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff requests that the City Council approve the recruitment and ratification of the employee <br />appointment to the full-time position of Associate Planner as recommended by the Community <br />Development Director. <br />ONLY <br />attorney: <br />danager: _ <br />
