Nevertheless, staff believe the After School Homework Assistance Grant is vitally important to <br />our children and our City's future. <br />It may be of some interest to note that the California State Librarian, Dr. Kevin Starr, is perhaps <br />the most renowned living historian in California. We believe that utilizing the Carnegie Public <br />Library as both a museum and an after-school homework laboratory is so innovative and <br />progressive it will be viewed very positively and bring the City of Colton some considerable <br />renown. <br />This recommendation has been reviewed and approved by the Library Board of Trustees. This <br />recommendation has been placed on the Agenda of the Historic Preservation Commission. <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />Without such grant funding, a public access computer program of such dimensions could only <br />otherwise be acquired by utilizing the City's General Fund. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The City owns the Carnegie Library.
