CITY OF COLTON <br />COMMUNITY CHILD CARE COOK <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the supervision of the Community Child Care Site Supervisor and Assistant Site <br />Supervisor, provides nutritious daily meals and snacks to child care clients at selected Colton <br />Community Child Care sites. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following) <br />• Prepare nutritious meals and snacks <br />• Prepare meals and snacks for special diets. <br />• Store food in appropriate locations and containers. <br />• Maintain an inventory of on-site food and food -related equipment and supplies. <br />• Utilize inventory to determine food, equipment and supplies to be purchased. <br />• Maintain food service facilities and equipment in a clean and sanitary manner. <br />• Maintain the kitchen and eating area in an efficient and safe manner. <br />• Attend staff meetings and In-service Training meetings as required. <br />• May organize and direct the work of other food service employees and volunteer helpers. <br />• Interact with staff and children on a daily basis. <br />• Perform related duties as assigned. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 pounds. Work requires standing on feet for <br />prolonged periods and good manual dexterity. Employees may also be required to have skin <br />contact with detergents, abrasives and cleaning solvents and disinfectants. Exposure to <br />potentially hazardous kitchen equipment. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination or education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, <br />and abilities necessary for a Community Child care cook. At least six months experience <br />in food handling, quantity cooking and general food preparation in a group setting such <br />as a school, senior citizen program, day-care facility, or hospital. High School diploma <br />or equivalent is required. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of a valid Class "C" California Driver's License. <br />Possession of a valid state approved food handlers permit. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledee of: <br />Federal, State, and local regulations regarding food quality, work safety, and sanitation. <br />Modern methods of cooking, preparing and serving food. <br />Principles of sanitation including health and safety practices and proper cleaning <br />methods. <br />Basic mathematics including weights and measures. <br />
