Page 2
right field dugout. The proposed parking lot, which fronts Congress Street would be fine graded
and covered in asphalt.
The Commission does not feel that approval of this proposal would interfere with the City's
proposed Park Master Plan. Demolition now would rid the City of the aging structures, structures
that currently invite crime. The new aluminum bleachers could be relocated at a later date should
that become necessary. The proposed parking lot along Congress Street needs to be developed
now. Once Cutting Edge begins their construction of their new facilities after the first of next year,
the existing entryway and old parking lot will be closed off. At the same time, the field continues to
be used and will receive additional usage next spring when youth baseball within the community
increases.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The proposed project is estimated to not exceed $40,000. The City's Park Development Fund
would provide funding for the project using Account #248-6950-6955-3890.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
The Recreation and Parks Commission recommends approval of the demolition of the existing
Veteran's Park ball field bleachers and two dugouts. Also approval of the installation of an
American's with Disabilities Act approved drinking fountain and the fine grading and asphalt
covering of the proposed parking lot adjacent to Congress Avenue. Approve and adopt the
proposed Resolution providing for an increase in appropriation.
Staff is further recommending that Cutting Edge Supply Inc. be approved to trench across the
proposed City parking area for a sewer connection along Congress Street.
Prepared by: Ron Kenny
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: Finance Director:
City Manager: w_ OTHER:
