MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAHKER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER® <br />Item #5 <br />SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO APPROVE THE TEMPORARY <br />ROAD CLOSURE OF "IT' STREET IN ORDER TO CONSTRUCT <br />STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN CONJUCTION WITH THE <br />CONSTRUCTION OF THE HAMPTON INN PROJECT. <br />DATE: <br />JUNE 6, 2002 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Reconstruction of H Street has been previously authorized as part of the Hampton Inn Project, <br />currently in final phase of completion. To facilitate construction of the section of H Street between 9"' <br />and ldh Street, contractor is requesting temporary closure of H Street from June 24, 2002 to August <br />2, 2002. This closure will not create hardship for the motorist, since adequate detour options are <br />available. <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The Developer has requested authorization to close H Street to all traffic between 9s' and 10's Street <br />from July 8, 2002 to August 16, 2002. This closure will create a safer environment for construction <br />work and the general public. Staff has determined that proposed closure will not adversely affect <br />traffic circulation. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />A Mitigated Negative Declaration for this project was approved by the City Council on 4-17-02. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that Council authorize the closure of H Street between 9th and 10's Street from July <br />8, 2002 to August 16, 2002. <br />Attachments: Attachment "A" <br />1 EW TEAM ONLY <br />Attorney: Finance I <br />Manager: OTHER: <br />
