CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />For City Council Meeting of July 16, 2002 <br />Item #12 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />APPROVAL: Daryl Parrish, City Manager <br />FROM: Randy Heusterberg, Chief of Poles <br />SUBJECT: Request for recruitment and ratification of employee appointment to the full time <br />position of Animal Control Officer in the Police Department <br />DATE: <br />BACKGROUND: There is one (1) vacant Animal Control Officer position in the Police Department. <br />Attached is the job description for the classification: salary range is $2,730.00 to $3,319.00 per <br />month. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: In the absence of an Animal Control Officer, a sworn officer must <br />handle animal calls, oftentimes in the Animal Control truck, thus the sworn officer is not available for <br />police response on emergency calls. This was previously a part-time position that was upgraded to <br />full-time in the 2002/03 budget review. <br />ALTERNATIVES: Deny approval of the recruitment and ratification of the employee appointment. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding availability for this general fund position, in the fiscal year 2002/03 <br />budget is as follows: Account No. 100-6070-6074-1010 (salary) and Account No. 100-6070-6074- <br />1100 (salary related benefits). <br />EXPECTED FILL DATE: As soon as recruitment is completed. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the recruitment and ratification of the <br />employee appointment to the full-time position of Animal Control Officer as recommended by the <br />Chief of Police. <br />REVIEW TEAM Y <br />City Attorney: Finance Director: <br />City Manager: OTHER: <br />ACO fk.doc .rw <br />
