CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF MARCH 5, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: R. Heusterberg, Chief of Police
SUBJECT: Approval of Animal Shelter Contract
DATE: February 12, 2002
Item #10
BACKGROUND:
The Police Department currently uses the City of San Bernardino for animal shelter services. The
City of Colton has contracted with the City of San Bernardino on a yearly basis in the past. This is
a contract renewal beginning July 1, 2001.
ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION:
The City of Colton does not have an animal shelter or other facilities for the handling of animals.
The City of San Bernardino agrees to aid and assist the City of Colton by impounding, caring for
and disposing of animals delivered to the Animal Shelter by residents of, or official representatives
of The City of Colton according to the provisions of the agreement. This is an ongoing contract
between San Bernardino and Colton. There is an increase in the amount of the contract of $1,500
for an annual fee for dead animal disposal.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City of Colton would need to construct an animal shelter or contract with another agency.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
FISCAL IMPACT:
Original contract minus the $1,500 increase was budgeted in the police department general budget
under #100-6070-6074-2350
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the City Council approve the recommended agreement.
Prepared by: Lieutenant Bob Miller
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
City Attorney: JL'V/U._._.
City Manager: 7'
Attachment: Exhibit A
Finance Director:
OTHER:
