Item #19
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF MAY 21, 2002
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
i
FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief
SUBJECT: Resolution Amending Resolution No. R-40-96 as it pertains to the
Allocation of the Licenses for the Operation of Fireworks Booths for
the Sale of Fireworks within the City.
DATE: May 8, 2002
BACKGROUND:
On April 16, 1996, the City Council approved Resolution No. R-40-96, allocating the 14
available licenses for the sale of fireworks within the City. The Resolution established a list of
approved organizations, which was to stay in effect until further action by Resolution of the City
Council.
The Resolution addressed the allocation of four licenses for churches, four licenses for civic
non-profit organizations and six licenses for youth groups.
DISC USSION/ANALYSIS:
This past year a vacancy was created when one of the civic organizations no longer met the
eligibility requirements of City Ordinance No. 0-08-96. In light of this vacancy, the Fire
Department received a request to host a meeting of the Civic Organizations to discuss the
possibility of inviting another Colton Civic Organization to join in the sharing arrangement.
Through discussions and a unanimous vote, the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 6474 was
invited to participate by filling the spot vacated by the Catholic War Vets.
As required by Ordinance No. 0-08-96, the Veterans of Foreign Wars submitted an application
prior to the May 10, 2002 deadline. The application was reviewed and approved for eligibility
under the provisions of Section 6.32.050.
ALTERNATIVES:
Not to approve the attached Resolution.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None.
