Item #18 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF OCTOBER 15, 2002 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER � SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION REQUEST TO SOLICIT PUBLIC BIDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF 2002-2003 CDBG STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS #104-25205, #104-26105, #104-27105, 104-23205 AND #104-24105. DATE: OCTOBER 2, 2002 BACKGROUND: The 2002-2003 CDBG Street Improvement Project consists of five (5) different projects. The Project involves asphalt pavement rehabilitation, fill-in concrete curb, gutter and sidewalk, drive approaches, handicap ramps, paving of alleys, and installation of cross -gutters for drainage purposes Currently the City has funding allocations and ECD (Economic and Community Development) approval for these listed CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Projects. • #104-25205 — Street improvement of Walters, Monroe, Vermont, Fur, Penn and Miller • #104-26105 — Street improvement of Shasta, Scenic, Virginia, Florence, Iowa, Western, Kansas and Illinois • #104-27105 —Street improvement of 3rd 4`n 5`n 6s', 7U', K, L, M and N • #104-23205 — Alley improvement on Shasta/C St., C/D St. and D/E St. • #104-24105 — Alley improvement on Mt. Vernon to 13`n St. between E/F St., F/G St. and G/H St. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: Engineering Department opted to combine these five (5) projects into one to minimize construction overhead, mobilization and traffic control expenses. The bidding process has been scheduled for four (4) weeks, and construction time is expected to take approximately three (3) months. During this time, every attempt will be made by the Engineering Department staff to ensure a wide range of potential Bidders are reached by the advertising process. The City will advertise in four (4) local newspapers and in several Plan Houses where Contractors can view Plans, Specifications & Documents.
