Item #9
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 1, 2003
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR 4+u
SUBJECT: AWARD A CONTRACT FOR ONE BLACK & WHITE POLICE SEDANS FOR THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT TO BOB WONDRIES FORD, FLEET DIVISION IN THE
AMOUNT OF $24,670.44
DATE: MARCH 24, 2003
BACKGROUND
The Police Department replaces its oldest vehicles on a yearly basis. This vehicle has in excess of 90,000
miles. This vehicle will replace a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. The Budget Committee has approved this
purchase.
DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS
Section 3.08.100 of the City's Purchasing Ordinance allows the City to enter into agreements with other
agencies for the purchase of supplies, services and equipment. In such instances, the procedures of that
agency shall satisfy all city requirements for the bid and award of those purchases. The City of Colton can
piggyback onto the Los Angeles County Bid #207488. This will save the City the cost of the formal bid process
and allow us to take advantage of the volume discount afforded to Los Angeles County.
ALTERNATIVES
Solicit sealed proposals for these vehicles. However, the cost may well be higher due to the smaller quantity.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
$23,000 is budgeted in the Police Patrol automotive capital account 100-6070-6072-4910, and the remaining
$1,670.44 is available from the Federal Asset Seizure automotive capital account 261-6070-6083-4910.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
None
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council piggyback on to the Los Angeles County Bid K#207488 and award a
contract to Bob Wondries Ford, Fleet Division for the purchase one black & white police sedan in the amount of
$24,670.44.
Report prepared by Mary J. Scribner, Purchasing Manager
REVIEW TEAM ONLY
Attorney: I Finance
Manager: OTHER:
