CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 19, 2003 <br />Item #11 <br />TO: Honorable Mayor and City Coun I Members <br />FROM: Kenneth Rulon, Chief of Police ' �1 <br />SUBJECT: Request to open continuous recrbitment and appoint full-time dispatcher, <br />full-time police services clerk <br />DATE: August 6, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The Colton Police Department currently has several vacancies authorized under the current <br />budget. These positions include two (2) Police Dispatchers and one (1) Police Services Clerk. <br />DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS: <br />The City of Colton Police Department is currently authorized ten (10) full-time dispatchers. There <br />are two vacancies in the dispatcher position due to the reassignment of two employees. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The cost to fund the full-time Police Dispatchers and the full-time Police Services Clerk was <br />approved in the adopted 2003/ 2004 Annual Budget. <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />Not Applicable <br />ALTERNATIVES: <br />Do not approve the department's request to recruit and appoint and reduce staffing level below <br />minimum department standards for public safety. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST- Gift Disclosure Requirements: <br />Not Applicable <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council approve the department's request to continuously recruit <br />and appoint full-time Police Dispatcher and full-time Police Services Clerk positions as needed <br />and authorized under the department's current budget. <br />
