CITY OF COLTON Item #11 AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 5, 2003 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members FROM: Kenneth Rulon, Chief of Police SUBJECT: Approve and Adopt a Resolution authorizing City Employee Representatives to acquire Federal Surplus Property. DATE: July 28, 2003 BACKGROUND: The Federal Government regularly disposes of surplus property that in many cases can be utilized by other organizations. The Police Department has acquired property through this program in the past and must update our application in order to continue. DISCUSSION/ ANALYSIS: The City of Colton Police Department is required to update our application information and obtain a Resolution from our governing body in order to acquire surplus Federal Property for the department's use. In the past, the department has acquired a vehicle as well as other safety equipment for use in combating crime in the City. Additionally, we have included in our application other City Department representatives whom we believe could also benefit by participating in this program. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The costs incurred to acquire and place into use the acquired surplus property will generally be funded through the department's current operating budget. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None CONFLICT OF INTEREST- Gift Disclosure Requirements, Not Applicable RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve and adopt a Resolution authorizing City Employee Representatives to acquire Federal Surplus Property. ALTERNATIVES: Do not approve and adopt the Resolution and discontinue acquiring Federal Surplus Property for departmental use.
