CITY OF COLTON CLASSIFICATION STUDY <br />INSTRUCTIONS, DESCRIPTION AND ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />PARKS MAINTENANCE CREW LEADER <br />DEFINITION: <br />Under the direction of the PARKS SUPERVISOR Recreation Services Manager, will lead, oversee, review, and <br />perform work activities and duties assigned to the parks maintenance crew; assume responsibility for the more <br />difficult and complex tasks; and perform other related tasks as necessary. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: <br />The Parks Maintenance Crew Leader is the advanced journey level class within the maintenance series with <br />responsibility for leading and overseeing the work of crews responsible for park maintenance. <br />Incumbents in this classification are subject to the Alcohol/Drug Testing requirements of the Department of <br />Transportation. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED: <br />Exercises technical and functional supervision over lower level maintenance personnel. <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following,): <br />• Lead, oversee, review, and perform the work of staff responsible for parks maintenance including irrigation <br />system maintenance, tree and brush maintenance, and general landscape maintenance of City parks and rights- <br />of-way. <br />• Supervise the operation and maintenance of parks maintenance equipment and/or machinery including LIGHT <br />heavy equipment. <br />• Assist in the training of lower level personnel in the areas of work; ensure adherence to safe work methods, <br />procedures and practices; identify training opportunities and needs; make recommendations to higher level staff. <br />• Coordinate assigned work activities with other work crews within the City and outside organizations such as <br />PG&E. <br />• Evaluate work sites and determine equipment, material, and personnel needs for the task at hand; obtain <br />necessary equipment and tools; coordinate and schedule the utilization of maintenance personnel. <br />• Perform routine field checks to ensure work accuracy and proper and safe work methods by members of the <br />maintenance crew; enforce compliance with proper work methods and safety regulations. <br />• Maintain accurate records for work in progress, completed, and planned. <br />• Maintain an adequate inventory of commonly used materials by maintenance crews; initiate purchase <br />requisitions to acquire necessary materials and equipment. <br />• Read and interpret blue prints, schematics, drawings, sketches, and other documents. <br />• Place road barricades and cones to set up a safe work area for work crews; perform traffic control duties as <br />necessary. <br />• Respond to questions and concerns from the general public; provide information as is appropriate and resolve <br />service complaints. <br />• Perform other related duties as required. <br />• Assists in the development and implementation of goals, annual work plans, policies and procedures for <br />assigned City facilities and services. <br />• Participates in the selection, training, coordination and supervision of staff and volunteers. <br />• May assist with the development and administration of Division budget. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, <br />bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily <br />duties.
