Item #23
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
For the Council Meeting of June 17, 2003
Honorable Mayor & City Council
FROM: Ron Kenny, Director of Parks, Recreation & Family Services
SUBJECT: Request Recruitment, Ratification and Appointment to the Full-
time Position of Maintenance Worker I in the Building
Maintenance Division of the Parks, Recreation & Family Services
Department
DATE: June 9, 2003
BACKGROUND:
There is a need to fill one, (1), budgeted full-time Maintenance Worker I position in the
Building Maintenance Division of the Parks, Recreation and Family Services Department.
The salary range is $2,410 - $2,930 per month.
DISC USSION/ANALYSIS:
This full-time position became vacant when the incumbent was reclassified to the
budgeted position of Maintenance Worker III in the Building Maintenance Division. The
MW I position would be filled through an open recruitment. No current eligibility list
currently exists in the Human Resource Department for this position.
It should be noted that if this position is not filled it would leave the Building Maintenance
Division with only four, (4), full-time staff, one of which is a supervisor. Not filling the
position would continue to make general maintenance of the City's 21 buildings very
difficult to accomplish. Most of the City's facilities are aging, which increases the need for
constant and consistent attention.
Additional workers are used to supplement existing staff. They include Partners with
Industry, County Restitution Workers and individuals from a temporary service.
Inconsistent staffing has made what should be consistent work assignments, very
inconsistent causing full-time staff to reorganize daily to fill the breach.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for this Internal Service Fund position for Fiscal -Year 2002/2003 is available in
Accounts No. 605-6200-6211-1010 (salary) and 605-6200-6211-1100, (salary related
benefits).
Page 2
