TO: <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2003 <br />HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br />FROM: Tom Hendrix, Fire Chief a� <br />Item #12 <br />SUBJECT: Request for Recruitment and Ratification of Employee <br />Appointment to the Full -Time Positions of Fire Captain and <br />Fire Engineer in the Fire Department <br />DATE: <br />August 25, 2003 <br />BACKGROUND: One vacant Fire Engineer position currently exists in the Fire <br />Department, and it is anticipated that there will be two additional vacancies, as well as <br />one Fire Captain vacancy, within the next 12 months. The salary range for Fire Engineer <br />is $4,075-$4,953 and the salary range for Fire Captain is $4,868-$5,917. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: A closed promotional recruitment for both positions will be <br />conducted and eligibility lists established upon Council approval. The candidate chosen <br />will meet the education and experience requirements as specified in the job description. <br />The current vacant position will be filled by November 1, 2003. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding is available for this approved general fund position in <br />Fiscal Year 2003/04 funded as follows: Account No. 100-6090-6091-1010 (salary) and <br />Account No. 100-6090-6091-1100 (salaryrelated benefits) <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: <br />None. <br />CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements <br />None. <br />RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the recruitment <br />and ratification of the employee appointment to the three full time positions of Fire <br />Engineer and the one full time position of Fire Captain when vacancies occur during the <br />term of the eligibility list. <br />IEW TEAM ONLY <br />Attorney: /% .fflaig-u-Finance Director: <br />Manager: 'Q OTHER: 72 <br />
