CITY OF COLTON Item #14 <br />AMENDED AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 7, 2004. <br />FROM: KENNETH RULON, CHIEF OF POLICE <br />SUBJECT: APPROVE RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE BUDGET FOR <br />FISCAL YEAR 2004-05 FOR THE FEDERAL ASSET SEIZURE <br />ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $100,000 AND FOR THE <br />STATE ASSET SEIZURE ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$25,000. NO GENERAL FUND MONEY WILL BE EXPENDED. <br />DATE: DECEMBER 7, 2004 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The police department is authorized under State and Federal laws to seize funds that were obtained through the <br />illegal sale of drugs and narcotics. These funds are intended for specific purposes to further the department's <br />mission in combating these illegal activities. The department desires to utilize unappropriated funds in these <br />accounts to purchase capital improvements to the police facility and purchase one vehicle for the department's <br />investigations unit. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />The police department is currently in the process of remodeling the existing police facility to include a new locker <br />room and exercise facility. It is the intention of the department to utilize funds not to exceed $100,000.00 from the <br />unappropriated fund balance in the Federal Asset Forfeiture Account to pay for the exercise equipment that will be <br />placed in the exercise area to assist the employees in maintaining their physical fitness. <br />Additionally, the department has a need to replace one of the existing vehicles utilized by the investigations unit <br />that has excessive mileage and is no longer suitable for law enforcement purposes. The department desires to <br />utilize funds not to exceed $25,000.00 from the unappropriated fund balance in the State Asset Forfeiture Account <br />to pay for this capital expense. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: <br />The funds to purchase these capital expenses are currently available in the department's Federal and State Asset <br />Forfeiture Accounts.
