CITY OF COLTON Item #12
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF FEBRUARY 17, 2004
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPROVE RESOLUTION AMENDING THE BUDGET AND CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (CIP) PROGRAM FOR FY 03-04 TO
INCLUDE: IOWA ST. (SOUTH OF THE 215 OVERPASS TO JACK
AND THE BOX), LA CADENA & BARTON RD., AND OLIVE ST.
(WEST OF MERIDIAN AVE.), PEPPER & VALLEY, EDGEHILL (C
STREET TO RANCHO AVENUE), AND PURCHASE OF A CRACK
SEALER & MATERIALS
DATE: FEBRUARY 10, 2004
BACKGROUND:
There are several streets that require repair and maintenance work that were not a part of Capital
Improvement Program FY03/04. The projects are as follows:
District 1:
District 4
District 6
• Pepper Avenue & Valley Avenue. This project will add a lane to south bound
Pepper Avenue and overlay heavily damaged section of the intersection.
• Construction of curb, gutter and sidewalks for Olive Street west of Meridian
Avenue. There are infill component needed to eliminate drainage problem at that
location.
• Pavement rehabilitation on Edgehill Drive from C Street to Rancho Avenue. Water
department has recently installed a new line on Edgehill Street, Public Services
Department is recommending reconstruction of entire street due to the poor
conditions of the pavement section.
• Pavement rehabilitation on Iowa Street south of the 1-215 overpass to Jack in the
Box. This section of the roadway is so heavily damaged that repair of just pot
holes is no longer feasible. Staff recommends grinding 3" of existing pavement
and overlaying with 3" of asphalt pavement.
• Pavement rehabilitation and sidewalks on La Cadena & Barton Road. This portion
of La Cadena has a trench that has pavement failure and causes constant pot
holes. Staff recommends repairing the trench, grinding 3" of entire pavement and
overlay with 3" asphalt. In addition, some sidewalk work along the west side of La
Cadena is also being proposed.
In addition, staff is requesting funds for the purchase of a Pavement Crack Sealer and materials.
Proper and timely maintenance of the streets will result in longer life of the pavement section and
reduction in the number of pot holes created by the vehicles.
7/10/03 City Clerk's Office Cb
