UTILITIES ENGINEER CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 3 of 3 <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of: <br />• a valid Class "C" California Driver's License. <br />• a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field. <br />• a California Registered Professional Civil Engineer license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Civil engineering practices and principles, including planning and development, <br />design, and construction. <br />Methods and techniques utilized in the preparation of engineering project designs <br />and related plans, specifications, construction materials, and cost estimates. <br />Analytical and design skills. <br />Principles and practices of municipal budget administration. <br />Applicable City/State/Federal codes, standards, ordinances, policies, and <br />regulations. <br />Methods and techniques of supervision, training and motivation. <br />Modern office equipment, including a computer and applicable software. <br />Methods and techniques for record keeping. <br />Proper English, spelling, and grammar. <br />Ability to: <br />Prepare detailed engineering sketches, plans and maps. <br />Review and understand architectural, grading, topographical and related drawings. <br />Inspect engineering projects such as trenches, sewer lines and water lines and <br />storm drains while under construction, in a state of disrepair or flooded. <br />Interpret and apply related laws, ordinances, and regulations. <br />Use good judgment and make sound decisions. <br />Communicate effectively orally and in writing. <br />Analyze a complex issue and develop and implement an appropriate response. <br />Perform complex mathematical calculations. <br />Apply applicable laws, codes and regulations. <br />Effectively operate a motor vehicle on City streets. <br />Operate computer and applicable software. <br />Courteously respond to community and organizational issues, concerns and needs. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships; communicate clearly and <br />courteously, deal tactfully, diplomatically, and persuasively with fellow employees <br />and with customers. <br />Approved by Council/Colton Utility Authority: March 16, 2004 <br />
