Item #16 CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR THE COUNCIL MEETING OF May 4, 2004 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: AMER JAHKER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER SUBJECT: ADOPT RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #2119 ADDITIONAL NO PARKING AREAS ALONG CERTAIN PORTIONS OF CAHUILLA STREET DATE: April 21, 2004 BACKGROUND: Cahuilla Street east of Mohave Drive is a dead end street located in a residential area of the City of Colton. The residents of that street have complained that commercial vehicles park along this street and that there is no turn around area large enough to accommodate a truck. The trucks are forced to back into the intersection of Cahuilla Street and Mohave Drive to exit the area. ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: This street does not meet the definition of a residential district as specified by the number of driveways located within a specific distance per the California Vehicle Code. The California Vehicle Code allows Local Agencies to restrict parking by resolution or ordinance, with the appropriate posting of signs. The portion of Cahuilla Street west of Mohave Drive complies with the definition of a residence district, and posting is not required. The City of Colton Traffic Safety Committee has reviewed this issue and has recommended the parking restriction be approved. FINANCIAL IMPACT: This action will require the installation of approximately 10 signs at a cost of approximately $1000. These funds are available in account number 100-6150-6160-2301. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that Council approve the attached resolutions, authorizing the restriction of commercial vehicle parking along both the north and south curb lines of Cahuilla Street. between Mohave Drive and the Easterly terminus.
