= =; A- ----7
CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF APRIL 19, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: AMER JAKHER P.E., CITY ENGINEER
SUBJECT: APPOVE STREET NAME CHANGE POLICY
DATE: APRIL 14, 2005
BACKGROUND:
In the past, on the name occasions when constituents requested that a street name be
changed, the City relied on the California Vehicle Code for guidance. During the City
Council meeting held on February 15, 2005, City Council directed staff to prepare a specific
City policy regarding changing names of existing City streets.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
Staff has drafted a policy that advises applicants of the procedures for changing street
names. The policy involves the submittal of an application, having a written request for 3
proposed streets along with a petition of signatures with no less than 75% of the residents.
The application shall be reviewed by the Traffic Committee to assure that there is no
confusion to residents and motorists. The application is then presented to the City Council
for approval or denial by resolution.
The policy packet also includes an application form, petition form, classifications of streets,
approved suffixes with abbreviations and the definition of street names that would act as a
guideline in choosing the street name.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
None
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
This project is exempt under Section 15301 (f) of the California Environmental Quality Act.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Not Applicable.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council authorize the policy guidelines for street name changing.
