15. Similar sounding street names are to be avoided within the same fire fighting <br />district to eliminate identification problems when people are reporting street <br />names under stress. <br />16. Once the petition is received in our office, City will verify that the road name does <br />not duplicate another and that a majority of the property owners addressed along <br />the road have signed the petition. <br />17. All street name changes of publicly owned street rights of way shall be <br />recommended for change by the Traffic Committee. <br />18. If there are no objections regarding the petition a hearing date will be scheduled <br />and a resolution will be prepared for action by the Colton City Council. <br />19. Once the resolution has been approved and signed by the City Council, we will <br />notify the appropriate Fire and Postal Districts, Assessor and Sheriffs <br />Departments, and the petitioners of the new road name. <br />20. Processing time requires a minimum of several weeks due to hearing schedules <br />and publication guidelines. <br />
