ITEM #10 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF AUGUST 16, 2005 <br />TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS <br />FROM: AMER JAKHER, P.E., CITY ENGINEER <br />SUBJECT: FINAL ACCEPTANCE/NOTICE OF COMPLETION FOR <br />SLURRY SEAL PROJECT — PHASE I, II and III . <br />DATE: AUGUST 8, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />On June 15, 2004, the City Council authorized the award of contract for Slurry Seal project- Phase <br />I, II, and III. The project consisted of sealing cracks in the existing streets with minor damage and <br />then overlaying with slurry seal to perpetuate the life of the existing pavement surface. Slurry seal <br />is cold mixed asphalt consisting of a graded aggregate, binder, fines and additives. It is a hard <br />wearing surfacing for pavement preservation. Slurry seals are widely used for sealing aged and <br />raveled pavements, filling minor cracks, restoring skid resistance and aesthetic appeal, and any area <br />that needs the asphalt pavement to be preserved. <br />Aside from slurry and crack seal, also included in the scope of work for this project was pavement <br />reconstruction of Edgehill Drive (C St. to Rancho Ave.), 6th Street (Laurel to north end), and Hanna <br />St. (Pennsylvania Ave. to Terrace Ave.), repair/extension of cross -gutter at Maryknoll Dr. and <br />Rosedale Avenue intersection, and pavement repair for utility (water) trench at Valencia Dr. (C St. <br />to Olive St.) and 2nd St. (C St. to Olive St.). <br />ANALYSIS/DISCUSSION: <br />The contractor has completed the work and satisfied all the requirements of contract terms and <br />agreement for this project. A total of 325,200 square yards of pavement in District 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 <br />have been crack sealed and slurry sealed. The project has been completed in the amount of <br />$546,629.32 by Roy Allan Slurry Seal, Inc.
