CITY OF COLTON
AGENDA REPORT
FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 6, 2005
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR
SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR APPROVAL FOR THE RATIFICATION OF
EMPLOYEE APPOINTMENTS TO CUSTOMER SERVICE
REPRESENTATIVE I POSITIONS IN THE CUSTOMER SERVICE
DIVISION OF THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT
DATE:
ITEM #10
BACKGROUND:
The Customer Service Division of the Finance Department is comprised of a staff of 10
employees: Customer Service Manager (1), Sr. Customer Service Representative (1), Customer
Service Representative II (5) and Customer Service Representative 1 (3). It is anticipated that as
many as two vacancies for the Customer Service Representative I position could occur during the
next couple of months. The current hourly rate of pay is $12.9057 to $15.6865.
DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS:
On April 5, 2005 the City Council authorized staff to establish an eligibility list for the purpose of
filling the pending vacancies in the Customer Service Division of the Finance Department. The list
has been established and two candidates have been selected to be brought on board to fill the
vacancies. These vacancies have been created as a result of a transfer of one employee to the
Electric Utility and the resignation of another. The Customer Service Division of the Finance
Department needs to maintain full staffing levels in order to continue the high level of customer
service this division provides to Colton residents and businesses.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The funds are approved in the Customer Service Division's salary account number 100-6040-
6042-1010 and benefits in account 100-6040-6042-1100.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT:
None
CONFLICT OF INTEREST — Gift Disclosure Requirements
None
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the request for establishing a list for the position
of Customer Service Representative I in the Customer Service Division of the Finance
Department.
