CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF DECEMBER 20, 2005 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: DILU DE ALWIS, FINANCE DIRECTOR ITEM #18 SUBJECT: ADOPT THE ATTACHED RESOLUTION TO ENTER INTO A THREE- YEAR CONTRACT FOR A VEHICLE FOR THE CITY MANAGER WITH SAAB FINANCIAL SERVICES CORPORATION DATE: DECEMBER 14, 2005 BACKGROUND: On January 8, 2003, the City entered into a lease agreement with Volkswagen Credit for a three-year lease of a 2003 Volkswagen Passat, GL Sedan, for use by the City Manager in accordance with his contract. The current lease is set to expire on January 8, 2006 The City Manager is requesting the City enter into a new lease with Saab Financial Services Corporation, a subsidiary of GMAC for a Saab 9-3. The lease will be for a three-year period at a cost of $567.52 per month. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: Staff solicited quotations for a 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero Sport Sedan and a Passat 3.6 for a three-year term lease. Proposals were received from: VENDOR: 1. Symes Cadilac/Saab Inc 2. Saab of Mission Viejo 3. Saab of Santa Ana 4. Riverside Volkswagen 5. Ontario Volkswagen *Vehicle did not meet specifications. MONTHLY PAYMENT *$551.23 $567.52 $619.68 $592.26 *$566.88 DOWN PAYMENT $551.23 $567.52 $667.18 $897.01 $607.65 The City Manager's contract calls for the City providing a vehicle allowance of $500 per month. In lieu, since this lease amount exceeds the $500 allowance, the City Manager will reimburse the City $67.52 per month through payroll deductions for the excess cost. ALTERNATIVES Provide City Manager with $500 per month auto allowance per his contract.
