CITY OF COLTON AGENDA REPORT FOR COUNCIL MEETING OF July 5, 2005 TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members ITEM #8 FROM: Bill Smith, Community Services Director SUBJECT: Adoption of Childcare Latchkey Contract with the State Department of Education for Fiscal Year 2005/06 and Authorization for City Manager to Sign Contract Documents DATE: June 22, 2005 BACKGROUND: The City Council has approved the Community Services Department to enter into agreements with the State Department of Education to provide latchkey childcare services to the community. This contract is ongoing, but has to be renewed each fiscal year. Historically the City Manager has been the designated authority to sign all state contracts. DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: For fiscal year 2005/06, the Extended Day Care Latchkey Grant will make services available for approximately 210 school-age children from low-income families. The state requires a designated authority to sign on behalf of the City for all childcare contracts. FINANCIAL IMPACT: The grant amount for fiscal year 2004/05 was $423,956. The grant for fiscal year 2005/06 is $434,173. The funds will be placed into revenue account number 206-5768, and the expenditure accounts will be handled under ledger number 206-7200-7202. These amounts have been budgeted -for in fiscal year 2005/06, and there is no general fund impact. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: None CONFLICT OF INTEREST: None RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that City Council Contract with the State Department authorize the City Manager to sign agreement. Attachment: Resolution approve Resolution , adopting the Childcare Latchkey of Education.
