RISK MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN CITY OF COLTON <br />Page 2 of 3 <br />WORKING CONDITIONS: <br />Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, <br />bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires <br />grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing statistical reports and <br />data using a computer key board. Additionally, the position requires near vision in reading <br />correspondence, statistical data and using a computer, and acute hearing is required when <br />providing phone service and communicating in person. When conducting safety inspections or <br />visiting the scene of an accident the incumbent may be required to be outdoors in all weather and <br />be subjected to heavy dust and pollen. <br />QUALIFICATIONS: <br />Education and/or Experience: <br />Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and <br />abilities necessary for a Risk Management Technician. A typical way of obtaining the <br />required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of workers' <br />compensation, personnel, or loss prevention experience and a high school diploma or <br />equivalent. A Workers' Compensation Certificate is highly desirable. <br />License/Certificate: <br />Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license. <br />KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS: <br />Knowledge of: <br />Principles and practices of workers' compensation, loss prevention, and safety program <br />administration. <br />Modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. <br />Reporting requirements for on-the-job injuries, property damage or loss and safety <br />violations. <br />Knowledge of state and Federal law as it applies to liability and workers' compensation <br />claims. <br />Occupational hazards and standard safety practices. <br />Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. <br />Ability to: <br />Prepare clear and concise administrative and statistical reports and analysis. <br />Maintain accurate and confidential records. <br />Handle confidential matters with discretion. <br />Work closely with outside claims administrators. <br />Investigate or assist in the investigation of claims. <br />Understand, explain and apply policies and procedures. <br />Analyze and recommend policy and procedural changes. <br />Operate a computer and utilize a variety of office equipment. <br />Establish and maintain effective working relationships. <br />Skill to: <br />Operate an office computer and applicable software. <br />Operate a motor vehicle on City streets. <br />
