4amilies of
ncarcerated
,oved Ones, Inc.
To: City of Colton
Attn: Bill Smith
Subject: Use of Flemming Park
Dear Mr. Smith,
About FILO, who we are and what we do:
Barbara Ellis
Executive Director
web: www.filo7.org
email: families@filo7.oig
May 23, 2005
Families of Incarcerated Loved Ones came into existence in 2002, out of the need to
support families of incarcerated loved ones. Families were devastated and had no where
to tum after their loved ones were sentenced to Life terms that is 25 years and more under
the Three Strikes Law. There was no assistance to be found and no support groups
available to deal with the impact of the loss, nor were the families able to comprehend
what to do next. The loss created a huge void in families and the children of those
incarcerated where separated from their parents, mothers and fathers lost their children,
sisters and brothers were separated the loss was almost too much to bear.
Alliances were formed as a result of being involved in a movement to amend the Three
Strikes Law. FILO incorporated. Began the healing process of the families and moreover
to heal their communities as well. FILO how has a mission to promote pro social
development of ex -offenders returning to the community; and of those individuals
incarcerated in state, federal, and local correctional institutions.
Additionally social service programs include family services, healthcare assistance,
transitional housing assistance, anger and domestic violence counseling, life skill
training, computer literacy, job placement assistance, drug and gang prevention.
Networking with family services, and faith based organizations. These community
services are designed to enable individuals to come together, and families to unite, thus
fostering a climate of support and appreciation for one another within the community,
and nationwide.
Thank you for your kind consideration
Barbara Ellis
P.O.
