ITEM #11 <br />CITY OF COLTON <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />FOR THE COLTON UTILITY AUTHORITY MEETING OF MAY 3, 2005 <br />TO: HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND UTILITY AUTHORITY MEMBERS <br />FROM: ERIC R. FRASER, DIRECTOR OF WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATIONS <br />SUBJECT: AWARD OF BID TO FURNISH MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR KIPPY DRIVE, PENN <br />COURT, PENN LANE, PEACH STREET AND JERYL AVENUE WATER PIPELINE <br />REPLACEMENT PROJECT. <br />DATE: APRIL 27, 2005 <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The City of Colton has old steel water mains that are over 50 years old. The old steel pipes are corroded, causing <br />leaks and discolored water to our customers. <br />DISCUSSION/ANALYSIS: <br />To correct the problem of the discolored water and leaks in the old steel pipes, a Mainline Replacement Program was <br />implemented. Currently, pipeline replacement projects are underway in the western zone of Colton where the steel <br />pipes are over 50 years old. To date, the City's Water Division has replaced 7,300 feet of 6" old steel pipe with 8" <br />Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) pipe as well as adding new fire hydrants and appurtenances. <br />In accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy, requests for sealed bids were sent to National Water Works, Inland <br />Water Works and Western Water Works for the necessary piping and appurtenances for Kippy Drive, Penn Court, <br />Penn Lane, Peach Street and Jeryl Avenue to replace approximately 3,300 feet of the old steel pipes.
